Food map for our glossies
Great to be out together this weekend for our Killarney Bushcare gathering, focused on our glossy black cockatoo project.
Members visited the newly installed nesting boxes and made a fantastic contribution to citizen science by mapping over 150 forest sheoak trees (Allocasuarina torulosa) carrying the cones that are the glossies’ only food source.
Even better, we recorded 6 trees with clear signs of recent feeding. A rewarding result that shows not only strong food availability, but that glossy black-cockatoos are actively using the area.
Every data point helps build a clearer picture - and supports the long-term protection of this special species.
