Strange happenings in Killarney

At 6.15am on Sunday morning, 45 citizen scientists between 5 and 82 years old took up their posts at 22 different sites along the Upper Condamine River and Spring Creek near Killarney. For 90 minutes they intently stared at the water in front of them, some using binoculars and at 8am sharp they all came together at the Heritage Centre in Killarney, each carrying 2 pieces of paper.

Not a scene from a mystery movie, but the #KillarneyBushcare and #WildlifeQueensland PlatypusWatch which took place last Sunday.

15 individual platypuses were spotted between the Head and the town of Killarney.

Thank you to the #KillarneyHistoricalSociety for serving us such a beautiful breakfast afterwards.

The Killarney PlatypusWatch is supported by #WildlifeQueensland and takes place every March and August to gain an understanding of the health of the platypus population in our waterways.
